FISHING - GENERAL INFORMATION

To learn how to catch a steelhead go to: http://www.doryfun.com/stories.html

How would you like to go fishing in a riverscape setting so beautiful that you forget you are even on a fishing trip? Where outstanding fish jerk you back into attention. Where nobody else is there to hamper your battle with a fighting trophy that takes you wildly on the follow?

And, how would you like to share that experience with a guide who enjoys your success and enthusiasm as much as his own? Who will share fishing secrets learned in over 50 years of fishing, 30 years of guiding, and a seasoned background in the professional fisheries and wildlife field? Can help you read the wilds in many ways to increase your fishing savvy awareness and subsequent success level?

You will fish with me, owner/guide Gary Lane, except when outside experts join for special trips with a larger group size.  I use  a driftboat with my own unique design of creature comforts: padded seat, backrest, heater, umbrella, and splash guards. I believe it's more fun fishing when you are fighting fish, not the elements.

Wapiti River Guides may be not for everyone. Fancy we are not. But comfortable, proficient, and personalized we are. Maximizing your fishing time and experience is what Wapiti is all about. I know of no other way to personalize your experience than by keeping group size to a minimum. Trips are limited to no more than two fishermen per guide. (Three by request only.)

Kids 12 and under are half price. We enjoy the challenge of working with "patient challenged" kids when fish do not bite as fast as most younger fishermen would like. This is when guiding is really more like coaching, so a lot of fun for me, too.

Our specialty of steelhead fishing is pulling plugs, drifting, and fly fishing. Although, we also customize fishing trips for salmon, trout, small mouth bass, and sturgeon.   Additionally, we fish some areas that contain enough obstacles (severity of whitewater, for example) that limits access to those unwilling or unable to meet the challenge. Real solitude and uncrowded conditions are earned, not cheap admission for everybody and their dog.

Note: we provide rods and reels for drift fishing and accommodate fly fishermen with their own gear.
