Why we run whitewater & the rivers we tour

Rapture,  might best describe the jolting experience that a lively rapid evokes. You will feel  the same energy that dams capture for electricity.  Only, it will light your spirit, instead of your house.

From mild to wild, a broad spectrum level of adventure awaits you at the river.  Our menu of trips range from mellow scenic oriented trips, to high water adrenalin drenching excitement.  You choose.

Perhaps you have never heard of the river’s we run. We consider that a good thing. Yes, less known places are harder to sell. Most people follow the crowd and want to see the more famous places. We don’t. That doesn’t mean the rivers we tour are less spectacular. Only less crowded.

While the areas we tour are not designated wilderness, national parks, or world heritage sites, they are remote, wild, pristine, and hold enough awesome beauty to steal your breath away. They are as inspirational as any place on the planet, yet less peopled. You can’t have solitude in a sea of humanity, or quietude in the midst of chatter.

With us, you will enjoy a genuine natural history adventure.  More than just whitewater, our trips will allow you to do your own dance with the river’s landscape. Fishing, hiking, exploring, or just gawking, are just a few of the natural enhancements that await you.

River’s in Idaho and Oregon is our true home.  Of course, our home, is everyone’s home, but we only share it with a few people at a time. Small group travel is our main focus.

The river craft we use

While the dory boat experience is our real field of expertise, we still offer people a chance to enjoy the river from the perspective of raft, driftboat, or inflatable kayak. Rather you want to be active and paddle along, captain your own IK, or sit back and let us do the rowing, we will shape a trip to your interests.

In general, the hard boat (dory and driftboat)  provides a smoother, drier ride. The rigid hull allows the boat to float like a cork, with no twisting action as sometimes felt in a raft ride. It is like riding in a small ship, with an exhilaration factor not felt in any other kind of raft or kayak.

The dory contains a deck with storage compartments, is self bailing, and made specifically for whitewater fun. The driftboat is more maneuverable, open, lighter, and made for comfortably fishing out of. Both require more skill to operate and are a more photogenic form to behold on the water.

In any case, our boats and rafts are large enough for comfort and security, but small enough to allow you to feel the river beneath you. Large rafts iron out the rapids and shelter you from a deeper appreciation of the river’s pulse.
